Soooo..... it's been years since we've been here. We came when it was newly established. From what I remembered back then was.... well there was nothing memorable. I remembered having some drinks and food but I don't remember it standing out to come back. BUT we went a few weeks ago and shortly after trying the current menu we came back a few days after. For apps we had the calamari and cheese curds. The calamari was tender (not chewy) and it also can with some fried cauliflower and this jalapeño cream dipping sauce. The batter actually was seasoned. Also, I don't like the taste of jalapeños but I do like spicy and this do dipping sauce was bomb! It was refreshing and zesty and not a lot of jalapeño taste. The cheese curds was well too. Perfectly fried and came with this chipotle sauce, kinda like a fancier Big Mac sauce. For my entree I got the chicken and waffle. OMG it was SO DELICIOUS! First you get 2 or 3 HUGE fIllets of breast. Great seasoning. I would just say the batter was heavy. I ended up scrapping some of it off. It also came with collard greens. It was pretty good, but it was pretty bland. It came with 2 waffles! OMG again. The was lightly crispy on top but soft and chewy on the inside. I think they use some sort of brioche bread? Or a pudding-ed bread? Whatever it was it was great quality breed and had a nice hint of sweet. Lastly THE KICKER it came with multiple dollops of this maple mousse. It like some aerated cream (looking) but tasted like syrup! It was the BOMB! I spread that cream with everything.
I really enjoy Moxie's food! I do think it's a little overpriced so I usually like to share with someone. We ordered the charcuterie board. They give you options of choosing 2 items for $14, 4 items for $22 and all 6 for $30. We chose the Spanish Serrano ham, wine-cured salami, fully loaded cheese, and the lamb chopper cheese. The meats come with pickled veggies (onions and cauliflower which was surprisingly good), grain mustard and the biggest crackers I've ever seen. The cheeses come with local jam (pepper jam, quite the kick!), fruit and nut compote, honey comb and crackers. Everything was delicious! I would have rather had either bread or a variety of crackers but overall very good. The service has always been fantastic, and there is plenty of seating inside and out. I do wish there was more wine options though. Pros: Great for parties Best Mac n cheese Options with charcuterie board Fabulous and quick service Awesome cocktails Cons: Slightly overpriced Not a lot of wine options It's at the town center so drive at your own risk
We stopped in for a rare brunch before bringing out of state family for the Christmas holiday. Very luxe two story restaurant with beautiful deep tan leather banquettes and seating outside. Outside has umbrellas and heaters when the temperature drops. We wandered around the different stations, fruit, omelet, carved meat, waffles, chafing dishes with grits, shrimp, sausage and bacon. Upstairs is where Santa held reign and more food was available. Our wait was efficient and welcoming. The food was good even though we didn't try the unlimited mimosas. Will be back soon with party of nine!
Having lived in Jacksonville for a number of years now Moxie has always been one of my favorite restaurants in the Town Center. It also helps that they are the only true local restaurant there as well and they have an amazing happy hour. Since moving to Bartram I haven't been going to Moxie as much as I used to but when I make it I am always in for a treat. In my most resent experience the boys and myself went for brunch. We started off the the bottomless mimosas which for $12.99 are a steal. Our waitress was amazing as well and made sure we never found the bottom of our drinks. For my entree I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and opted to have my shrimp blackened. The shrimp were cooked perfectly! The grits had great flavor as well. I was worried the I might not have enjoyed it as much as other places since it had a tomato base sauce and not a cream sauce but it was still great. For $17 it might have been on the pricier side for a brunch entree but I really enjoyed it. I would for sure order again. Can't wait for my next experience at Moxie.
Always been here for drinks, finally had girls night dinner here last week. The food was great, but the upstairs area is really loud and hard to have a conversation. I like this place more for drinks, or maybe dining outside would be better. Didn't have any appetizers, but did enjoy a tequila cocktail. Ordered the grilled scallops which were tasty- adequate portion. Best food I had was the side of mac and cheese- omg a must order! Baked in a cast iron skillet and certainly a bargain. My friend ordered the tempeh quinoa & veggie dinner which was tasty. Another friend really liked her shrimp & grits (I didn't try it because it has sausage in it, and I dont eat pork). Best part is the views- esp at sunset!!!
Visited Moxie Kitchen & Cocktails while visiting Jacksonville for my mom's birthday and it was amazing! Ambiance: As soon as you enter you are blown a way by the modern/industrial decor of the restaurant. The booths sort of look like a fancy clam shell, giving a nice and cozy coastal glam vibe. There is an upstairs bar area that had specials on drinks. Service: Exceptional customer service from beginning to end. Probably the first restaurant I've ever been to that offered to seat a portion of the party before the rest of the party arrived. Our server, Courtney, was extremely helpful with menu suggestions from drinks to entrees. She was super friendly and attentive with our party. Food: I ordered the salmon with whipped potatoes as my entree. The entree originally comes with goat cheese in the potatoes but I substituted since I'm not a fan of cheese but my custom order was still DELICIOUS. By far the best salmon I've had to date. Super light seasoning but extremely flavorful. The potatoes laid on top of a blood orange vinaigrette which paired as an amazing combination. Moxie prides itself on locally sourcing all its food in Jacksonville and you can taste in the food. We ordered crab cakes as an entree that I was not a fan of at all surprisingly. Overall I would rate Moxie a 4.5, the only reason not a full 5 was because of the crab cakes and the fact that there wasn't any birthday desert for the birthday girl. Will definitely visit again if I'm ever back in Jacksonville.
Okay, so let me start by saying our first date was at Moxie & we have come here every Valentine's Day since. We don't ever come outside of Valentine's Day, which might effect the experience we had. Came tonight for V-Day, sat right at the time of our reservation. Waiter was timely, drinks came fast. We ordered and not to long later a complimentary order of biscuit tots came; super yummy. Our appetizers were recommended by the waiter (from the "Seconds" portion of the menu). We had the duck spring rolls and the fried crab cakes and they were AMAZING. Honestly that combined with the complimentary appetizer already had us basically full. I ordered blackened scallops with 3 cheese grits. I got 5 total scallops which I think might be normal. They were great. My fiancé got chicken and waffles. The waffle was great but I could tell from the time they put the chicken down that it had been cooked a little too long. Picture attached but it was dark. I think on any other night, in all fairness, they'd have re-made it but on V-Day they're probably cranking people out of there. His food also came with collards which he thought were excellent! Biggest complaint of the night from me, and the group of 3 girls who walked out ahead of me, was that the restaurant was SO HOT. We were sweating buckets. My fiancé literally let me walk out and go to the car while he finished his meal and got the check because it was so hot in there and I was sweating. Overall do like this place, I'd just recommend, like anywhere, that you not try it for the first time on Valentine's Day.
Over the Thanksgiving break, my family and I headed up to shopping mecca St. John's Town Center to pick up a few last minute items (and besides, I can't pass up any trip to a Barnes and Noble). This is a massive outdoor mall that has over 150 shops, conveniently all in a row for you to burn your paycheck in one night! For those who don't like to shop (and certainly, not members of my family!), there are plenty of places to just hang out including a turtle pond or the dog park. There are a lot of places to eat, but we recommend Moxie Kitchen and Cocktails, located just across the street from the mall. My dad loved the old-time Moxie soda they served (which tastes like a mixture of Coke, Dr. Pepper and Robitussin). There are a variety of seating options from the upstairs bar, to the casual outdoor tables to the fun booths near the kitchen where we sat. If you're there late (like we were) be sure to ask for their late-night menu with some items as low as $5 a dish. We had a really fun time, and bonded with our waiter. Or at least probably gave him a story or two as we pointed out the spelling error on one of their posters advertising their locally-"soured" food (rather than locally-"sourced"!). Though, our waiter was quick to point out they did have pickles on the menu. Touché!
Pleasantly surprised that they offer a Happy Hour during the weekends but I'm more impressed with the service. We started off as group of 4 just having drinks and sharing a charcuterie plater but our plans eventually evolved to a larger group of 21. The staff was so friendly considering the last minute request to accommodate our mix of adults and kids. Our waiter was constantly refreshing drinks and checking in on the group. The outdoor patio worked out well for us with the larger round tables and outdoor couches. My seared octopus appetizer was good, burger was ok (per the hubby) and my daughter told me "Please write in your Yelp review that the kids' short rib needs way more meat. The meat-to-mashed potato ratio was way off. It was good, but I wanted more short rib!"
